The Veterinary Medical Center is thrilled to announce a new service: internal medicine consultations with ultrasound, available exclusively for veterinary practitioners on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. We understand the high costs, extended wait times, and communication hurdles often associated with referrals. By offering this service at our office, we aim to streamline and enhance the referral experience for you and your patients.
Meet Dr. Bruce!
Dr. Elizabeth Bruce, VMD, DACVIM
Dr. Elizabeth Bruce leads this new service at VMC. Dr. Bruce graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and completed her internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of Georgia. A valued member of the VMC team since 1999, she specializes in gastroenterology, feline medicine, and geriatric/hospice care. With over two years of focused training in abdominal ultrasound, Dr. Bruce is expanding her expertise in abdominal vasculature and basic cardiology to provide comprehensive diagnostic insights.

Easy Referral Steps:
- Fill Out and Send a Referral Form: You may email or call Dr. Bruce for assistance.
- Forward Medical Records: Please send all pertinent medical history as soon as possible.
- Client Scheduling: VMC will reach out to clients within 72 hours to schedule consultations and ultrasounds. For urgent cases, call VMC to check availability.

What is Dr. Bruce’s Training and Experience?
Dr. Bruce has extensive experience in both large and small animal internal medicine, with a particular focus on gastroenterology, feline medicine, and geriatrics. Her two years of advanced abdominal ultrasound training make her well-equipped to handle even complex cases.
What Should Referring Doctors Expect?
- Medical Record Transfer: Forward records at least one week before the exam.
- Discharge Summary: Discharge notes will be emailed within 48 hours, with follow-up phone calls available on request.
- Ultrasound Images: Available upon request.
- Direct Consultations: Dr. Bruce is available via email for consultations.
What Should Clients Expect?
- Initial Exam & Diagnostics: The consultation and exam occur first, with ultrasound scheduled for a separate day if necessary.
- Preparation Requirements: Patients should be fasted for 6-8 hours and refrain from urinating outside once at VMC.
- Procedure Details: Ultrasound takes approximately 1.5-2 hours; clients may stay on-site or nearby
