| Dr. Terry Corkran Dr. Terry R. Corkran is the founder of the Veterinary Medical Center of Easton. Originally from Wilmington, Delaware, he came to the Eastern Shore after graduating from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. He was in private equine practice until July 1981 when he opened the Veterinary Medical Center. He wanted to include companion animals and to establish an equine surgical facility. It's growth has been challenging and very satisfying to him and his wife, Shirley, who was practice manager from 1981 to 2006. Dr. Corkran's primary focus in practice has always been equine reproduction and lameness, although he enjoys all aspects of equine practice and has had a lifelong interest in beef cattle. He raises American Quarter Horses and stands a Texas bred Foundation Quarter Horse stallion at his home in Centreville. He enjoys team roping and working cow horse related activities. Dr. Elizabeth Callahan Dr. Callahan is (almost) a native of the Eastern Shore. She grew up here in Easton and received her DVM from the Virginia - Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 1985. She joined VMC that year and has practiced here since that time. She became board certified in the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners in 2000. Her practice interests include equine reproduction, equine nutrition, and acupuncture. She also breeds warmbloods and competes her homebreds at the FEI level in eventing.Dr. Dean Tyson Dr. Tyson grew up on a dairy farm in northeastern Maryland. He attended the University of Maryland at College Park for undergraduate studies and graduated from the Virginia Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 1988. He enjoys the challenges and rewards of veterinary practice and has a special interest in surgery. He joined the VMC team in 1996. He has a passion for gardening, historic restoration, and a variety of outdoor activities.Dr. Amy Tanis - Joining our team in July Dr. Tanis is originally from northwest New Jersey. Her undergraduate work was completed at Rutgers University and she received her DVM from University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. She recently completed an equine internship program at Littleton Equine Medical Center in Littleton, CO. Special interests in veterinary practice include equine lameness, imaging and internal medicine. When she is not at work, you can find her enjoying a variety of outdoor sporting activities with her husband Tom. |
Dr. Elizabeth Bruce Dr. Bruce spent her formative years in New Jersey, Nantucket, and Vermont. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Veterinary School in 1992 and completed a large animal internship and residency at the University of Georgia. She is board certified in large animal internal medicine. She spent 3 years in a mixed practice in rural Georgia before joining the VMC team in 1999. Liz's interests include internal medicine, dermatology, and dentistry. When she is not working, Liz is with her family, swimming competitively, or riding Regis, her mule.Dr. Kari Lyon Dr. Lyon is originally from Lancaster County Pennsylvania. She worked as a certified veterinary technician at New Bolton Center before attending the University of Pennsylvania, School of Veterinary Medicine. In May 2007 she completed an equine internship at Mid-Atlantic Equine Medical Center in Ringoes, New Jersey. Her professional interests include emergency medicine, equine neonatology and equine reproduction. When she is not working she enjoys traveling and kayaking with her husband, Chris.
Dr. M. Jo Heaver Dr. Heaver is a native Marylander. She is a 2002 graduate of Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine and spent a clinical year at LSU. Following graduation, Dr. Heaver worked in equine and small animal practice in New York State. She spent two years in emergency practice prior to joining VMC in December 2007. An avid reader and gardener, Dr. Heaver enjoys entertaining and spending time with her family in Annapolis and Baltimore. |
